For the first time since 1987, the Sagehens defeated the Redlands Bulldogs, 28-25. Joe Cappola rushed for 168 yards on 33 carries and scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the win. The season-ending victory ensured a losing season for the Bulldogs, and was the first time in the past 11 games that the Sagehens had triumphed over Redlands. Trailing 18-6 at halftime, the Sagehens responded with a 15-0 third quarter highlighted by a pair of three yard scores by quarterback Cody Peterson and Cappola. Pomona-Pitzer outscored the Bulldogs 22-7 in the second half.

Men's Soccer
Overall: 13-6   SCIAC: 12-3

Two scoreless halves and two overtime periods could not decide who would represent the conference with the automatic NCAA bid, so the game between the Sagehens and Redlands Bulldogs came down to penalty kicks. In the end, the Bulldogs prevailed 7-6, overshadowing a great performance by goalkeeper Dan Bendett. Regardless of the outcome, both Redlands and Pomona-Pitzer will share the conference title, and senior Scott Coleman was named SCIAC Player of the Year.

Scott Coleman scored two goals and David Roy added two assists as the Sagehens defeated the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran 2-1 on Saturday.

Women's Soccer
Overall: 8-5-4  SCIAC: 7-2-3

The Sagehens took the field for their final game of the 2004 season, facing Chapman in a non-conference match-up. Chapman entered the game ranked #14 in the country and on the verge of earning a bid into the NCAA tournament. The Hens played the game a bit-short handed with several players out due to class conflicts or injuries, but the group was looking forward to one last challenge against a top Division III team. Pomona-Pitzer played a good first half. Although the Hens gave up an early goal, the play was even after that, with the Hens taking two shots on goal to Chapman’s four.  The Panthers took over in the second half however, finding the net two more times to make the final score 3-0.  The Sagehens finish the 2004 season with an 8-5-4 record. Among the teams accomplishments this year include the longest consecutive streak of games without a loss in the history of the program.  Between September 22nd and October 30th, the Hens went 7-0-3, for a 10 game streak, which bests the streak of seven games without a loss in 1989.  The 7-2-3 record in SCIAC earned Pomona-Pitzer second place, the best conference finish since 1990. The programs successful season was fueled by a great team defense, which only gave up eight goals and had six shutouts in twelve SCIAC games. Freshman goalkeeper Kelsyn Bevins jumped to the top of the record books in her first season. Her .737 goals-against-average on the season is the best ever for Pomona-Pitzer.

Pomona-Pitzer traveled to Eagle Rock to play Occidental College on Monday for a rescheduled SCIAC game. It was the Hens third game in five days and they were not able to hold a 1-0 halftime lead, eventually losing 2-1 in overtime. Occidental was out-shot 19-9 by the Hens, but capitalized on their chances. The Tigers scored the winning goal off of a corner kick in the 96th minute. Pomona-Pitzer’s goal was scored in the closing minutes of the first half to take a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Senior Izzy Smith, cracked a long range shot that hit the crossbar. The ball bounced to Freshman Jillian Duffy, who dove to head it in past the goalkeeper. The result breaks the Sagehen streak of 10 games without a loss. Their last loss came on September 18th against Redlands in the first SCIAC game of the season. Pomona-Pitzer ends conference play with a 7-2-3 record, which gives them second place in SCIAC. They will close their season with a non-conference match-up at home against Chapman. Kickoff is 2:30 pm on Thursday.

On Thursday, the Sagehens travel to UC Davis to compete in Nationals, where they are the number ten seed. They take on Whittier at 10 am Thursday.

The Hens lost to Air Force, ranked 16th nationally, 11-4. Coach Scott Smith used a platoon system against the men in blue, much like he did against Cal Baptist, so that the team would have enough energy to defeat Chapman and maintain a high ranking in Division III. Mock scored two goals, Cooper one. the Hens were behind 5-1 at the end of one, 7-2 at the half, 8-4 after three. In the Chapman game, Cooper and Brown scored in the 1st, Su in the 2nd, Brown, Price and Cooper in the 3rd, and Cooper, Mock and Kusao in the 4th. The game was never in doubt, and this was the 3rd straight win over Chapman this season. Seniors Andrew Shetterly and Bobby "Dirty" Brown were introduced to the crowd for their last home game as Sagehen polo players, and the faithful gathered in the cloudy weather cheered for their heroes.
