Pomona-Pitzer 0, La Verne 0
The Sagehens traveled to La Verne for a conference match up against the
Leopards. The game ended in a 0-0 stalemate after regulation and two overtimes
were played. Goalkeepers Kelsyn
Bevins and Caroline Flynn
split the shutout, with Bevins making three saves and Flynn making four saves.
The Sagehens were unable to find the net for the second game in a row, though
they had several quality chances throughout the match. The first twenty minutes
saw Pomona-Pitzer keeping possession and controlling the game. A couple early
shots weren’t put away and the Leopards responded later in the half with some
pressure, but the Sagehen defense held up well. The second half had more back
and forth action with neither team finding a way to score. During overtime,
Pomona-Pitzer couldn’t capitalize on a couple loose balls bouncing around in
front of the La Verne goal and the missed opportunities were costly, as the game
ended in a 0-0 draw. The tie brings the Sagehen’s overall record to 3-3-2. They
look to pick up their first SCIAC win in their Wednesday game against
Occidental, played at 4:00 p.m. at Pomona-Pitzer.
Pomona-Pitzer 0, Redlands 2
The Sagehens played the defending SCIAC champions and the #9 ranked team in the
country in their opening game of conference play. Redlands proved to be as good
as their ranking, earning a 2-0 victory over Pomona-Pitzer. The Bulldogs took
the lead off of a long throw flicked to the back post, going up 1-0 in the 12th
minute. They struck again two minutes later and the Sagehens found themselves
facing an early two goal deficit. The defense was eventually able to sort out
Redlands potent attack and shut them out for the remaining 76 minutes of the
game. Kelsyn Bevins was busy in goal,
making nine saves on the day. Pomona-Pitzer came out after halftime looking for
a comeback. It was an evenly played second half as both teams took two shots on
goal. The Sagehens were not able to put their shots past the Redlands keeper to
get on the scoreboard and the final result stood at 2-0. Next up is a short trip
to La Verne for a game at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Pomona-Pitzer 1, UC Santa Cruz 2

since 1990. The Panthers entered the game as the higher ranked team in the
region and the #22 ranked team in the country.
The scoring action began in the 24th minute, when midfielder
Katherine Moskop slipped a
pass across the box to freshman
Angie Martinez in front of the goal. Chapman evened the score just before
the end of the first half, with a goal in the 38th minute.
Beginning the second half knotted in a 1-1 tie, Chapman benefited from an
own-goal off a corner kick to take the 2-1 lead in the 57th minute. The Sagehens
stormed back with two goals in four minutes by sophomore
Jenny Medvene-Collins.
The tying goal came off a through ball played by midfielder
Lily Muldoon to a streaking
Medvene-Collins, who controlled it and shot a laser from the top of the box into
the far post. In the 72nd minute, Martinez drew a crowd in the box and was
pulled down by a Chapman player, earning Pomona-Pitzer a penalty kick. Medvene-Collins
stepped up and buried the shot to bring the Sagehens into the lead. The 3-2
margin would hold over the final twenty minutes, as the Pomona-Pitzer defense,
led by senior defender Ashley
Hovey and goalkeeper Kelsyn
Bevins, closed out the game.
The victory brings the Sagehens record to 3-1-1 on the season. Next up is
another important west region match-up against UC Santa Cruz on Saturday.
