| The men's basketball team (11-12, 8-4) hosted Cal Lutheran on the night of the 17th and lost a tough ballgame to the visiting Kingsmen by the score of 60-50. With the loss, the Hens fell to 2 games behind the Kingsmen in the SCIAC standings with just two games to play. The Sagehens got behind early in the first half and were never able to catch up. Going into the locker room at halftime, Cal Lu held a 31-12 lead, as the Hens shot just 5 for 25 from the floor. The Hens put up 38 points in the second half, but it would not be enough. Dylan Nachand was the only Sagehen in double figures on the night, as he went for 17 points on 5 of 11 shooting. Travis Bray scored 9 points and grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds, and Jeremiah Martin chipped in with 8 points of his own. Ryan Williams and Sterling Struckmeyer contributed 5 points apiece.
The Sagehens crossed the street on Wednesday the 14th and came up short to rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps by a score of 65-56. It was a tough night on the boards for the Hens as they were outrebounded by 20. The Stags also got to the free throw line 19 more times than the Sagehens. Jeremiah Martin led the Hens offensively with a game-high 18 points and a team-high 5 rebounds. Travis Bray chipped in with 11 points and 4 boards, while Dylan Nachand and Mark Erler contributed 10 points apiece. As a result of this game and a loss by Cal Lutheran, there are now 3 teams within 1 game of first place in the conference. This Saturday, the Hens host Cal Lutheran in an important match-up.
The Hens traveled to La Verne on the 10th and came away with another win against the Leos, 71-54. The Sagehens took a 20 point lead into halftime and never looked back the rest of the way. Jeremiah Martin had a big night for the Hens as he collected 21 points on the night as well as 8 rebounds, both game-highs. Travis Bray and Tad DeWald both chipped in with 10 points apiece on the evening. The Sagehen defense held the Leo offense to just 34 % shooting from the floor and 21% from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Hens hosted Redlands on the 7th and upended the Bulldogs by a score of 78-65. Leading the way for the Hens was Jeremiah Martin as he tallied teams highs in points (18) and rebounds (7). Frosh Mark Erler tossed in 14 points of his own on the evening as well as bringing down 6 boards. Tad DeWald collected 9 points for the Hens as well as dishing out a game-high 5 assists. Dylan Nachand and Travis Bray both chipped in with 11 points for the Sagehens. The Sagehens were able to shoot a solid 50 % from beyond the 3-point arc (10-20).
The Hens will wrap up the regular season this week, first traveling to Occidental on the 19th, and finishing up at home against Whittier on the 22nd.

| The women's basketball team (11-12, 5-5) traveled to Chapman on the 16th for an non-conference match-up with the Panthers. The road was not kind to the Hens as they fell by a score of 65-51. Maya Jones was the only Hen in double digits as she went for 16 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Gre’Juana Dennis was next in line with 8 points. Sojourner Howe and Jamie Guenthoer each chipped in with 6 points. The Sagehens were outrebounded on the night by 21 boards. The Hens will wrap up their season this coming week with games at La Verne and home against Redlands on the 21st for the season finale.
The Hens took on the Tigers from Occidental on the 13th at home and beat the visiting squad by a score of 58-51. Maya Jones led all scorers in the game with 14 points on the night. Jones also came up with 6 steals for the contest. Jamie Guenthoer had a good night for the Hens as well, as she came up with 11 points and a game-high 9 rebounds. Lindsay Hill came off the bench for the Hens and chipped in 11 points as well in 16 minutes of action. The Sagehens overcame a poor night shooting the ball by forcing 18 turnovers while committing only 6 in the contest. At halftime, the Hens were up by a score of 35-19.
The Sagehens played host to cross-street rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the 9th and came away with a hard-fought 2-point victory. The Hens trailed for most of the game but a lay-up by Maya Jones put the Hens up by two with just 3 seconds to play in the game. Jones also figured in the last play of the game as she blocked the last second shot from the Athenas. Gre’Juana Dennis led the way offensively for the Sagehens with team-highs in points (17) and rebounds (8). Jones had a good night in addition to her last minute performance as she tallied 12 points, 6 boards, and 5 blocked shots for the Hens. Jamie Guenthoer had 8 points and 6 rebounds on the night. A tough Sagehen defense held the Athenas to under 30 % shooting from the floor.
The Hens played at Cal Lutheran on Tuesday the 6th and fell to the Regals by a score of 66-51. The Hens held a nine point advantage half way through the first half of play and went into halftime down just two. But Cal Lu would open the second half of action with a 14-2 run and hold on the lead the rest of the way. Jamie Guenthoer led the way for the Sagehens on the night with 13 points and a game-high 8 rebounds. Maya Jones chipped in 10 points and 7 boards, and Sojourner Howe scored 12 points and gathered 4 rebounds. The Hens shot 45 % from the floor but did not convert any of their 7 three point attempts.
The Hens will finish up their season this week with matchups against La Verne and Redlands.

| The men's swim/dive team (3-7-1, 2-3-1) finished in 5th place at the SCIAC meet last weekend. Coach Gary Troyer noted, “We had great swims all weekend. Everyone recorded lifetime best efforts in their main events.”
Ben Komer won the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle in very fast NCAA qualifying times. Dusty Baker was second in both butterfly events. Marc Cavagnolo scored big points in the middle distance events and two of the Hens’ freestyle relays were solid as well. The top swims, based on improvement, came from J.R. Killigrew in the 100 breast and Justin Greenwood in the fly events. Eric Kort put in the top efforts by a Sagehen frosh with his work in the sprint freestyle events.

| The women's swim/dive team (9-3, 5-1) placed 2nd at the SCIAC meet last weekend, 63 points behind Redlands, and 36 points ahead of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Christen Parker won the 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and was part of the winning 800 freestyle relay team.
Parker’s 200 and 500 times were NCAA qualifying times. Kate Bollinger won the 400 Individual Medley in an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Ashley Eastman came up with a win of her own in the 1650 freestyle. Other members of the 800 free relay team were Lucia Schmit, Sarah Kalhorn, and Jacquie Cole.

The women's softball team (1-3, 0-0) split a double header with the USC club team on Friday afternoon. The Hens put an 8 spot on the board in the 3rd inning and that would be all the scoring in the first game as the Hens defense gave up just one hit on the afternoon. Sharon Silveira went 3-3 for the game with a double and a run scored. Game 2 saw a reversal of fortunes as the Hens went down by a score of 9-0. Like their opponent in game 1, the Hens came up with just one hit in game 2, that by Alicia Juskewycz.
The Hens hosted a double header on Wednesday afternoon and fell twice to the visiting Master’s squad. Game 1 went to the visiting team by a score of 11-1 and game 2 saw the Hens fall by a score of 7-0.
The Hens will be back in action on the road on the 20th as they make up their rained out game against Biola.

| The women's tennis team (1-1, 1-0) hosted Sonoma State on the 18th and fell to the visiting squad by a score of 7-2. Sheree Schwartz came through with a victory at number 1 singles as she triumphed with scores of 7-5, 6-2. Frosh Kelli Howard was the other Sagehen winner as she won in straight sets in the number 3 slot, 6-3, 6-3. At the number 2 position, frosh Betsy Mork lost a tough battle in three sets. Rounding out the line-up for the Hens were Chelsea Heller at #4, Whitney Henderson at #5, and Katie Siedel at the 6th spot.
The Hens traveled to Redlands on Friday to open their season and SCIAC play on the same day. The Hens began the day by sweeping three very closely contested doubles matches and then went on to win 5 of 6 singles matches, all in straight sets, to complete the scoring. Sheree Schwarta won at the number one position by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Other winners on the day were Betsy Mork, Kelli Howard, Chelsea Heller, and Whitney Henderson. Schwartz teamed with Howard at number one doubles, while Mork and Heller tied down the number 2 spot. Henderson teamed with Katie Siedel at number 3 doubles.
The Hens competed at the Cal Poly Pomona Flighted Invitational on the weekend of the 3rd. The frosh doubles tandem of Kelli Howard and Whitney Henderson made it to the finals of the #1-2 doubles flight before falling to a
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps duo.
The Hens will face two conference foes this week in Occidental and Whittier.

| The men's tennis squad (0-1, 0-0) opened up their season with a tough 7-0 loss on the 17th to the Bulldogs of Redlands. Redlands won the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches. The number 1 Sagehen duo of David Fern and Samir Vora provided the lone victory on the day for the Hens, as they were victorious by a score of 8-6. Jamie Frank, playing in the number 5 position, extended his match to three sets before falling 6-4 in the third. The Bulldogs came into the match as the 6th ranked team in the country.
The men’s team was in action on the weekend of the 10th -11th with the women as the two teams combined to make one of 16 teams in the inaugural small college World Team Tennis event hosted by Pomona-Pitzer. Inclement weather caused the first day of action to be postponed until Sunday, and on that day, the format was shortened and the action was fast-paced. The Sagehen squad ended up placing ninth out of 16 teams, and 3rd among the 4 Division III teams in the event. The Championship went to NAIA Oklahoma City University as they defeated Tyler Junior College in the finals.
The Hens will continue SCIAC action as they take on Whittier and Occidental next weekend.

| The men's baseball squad (3-2, 0-0) hosted the Oaks of Menlo College on the 18th and came away on top by the score of 10-5. Spike Einsiedler pitched a complete game for the Hens, allowing only one earned run on the day on 6 hits. Offensively, Luke Smude was one of a few Hens who produced, going 2 for 4 with a home run, 2 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Matt Rager continued his solid play from the plate, going 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s and a run scored. Alex Siele went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s for the Hens. Alan Flores was the other Hens with multiple hits as he collected 2 of his own, knocking in one and scoring twice.
The Sagehens played host to Cal State Hayward on the 17th . The game marked the second between the two clubs in as many days. Unlike the day before, the Sagehens came up short on this day, falling by a score of 12-6. The Hens outhit Hayward 14-11, but also committed 4 errors on the day. Jose Cortez, who led the nation in home runs last season as a freshman, hit his first round-tripper of the young season, as well as collecting two more hits on the day. Nick Bulaich also came up with 3 hits for the Hens on the afternoon, going 3 for 5 with a double. Matt Rager and Alan Flores also produced 2 hits on the day for the
Sagehens.
On the 16th , the Sagehen team came away a winner by the score of 6-3. 3rd baseman Matt Rager hit his 3rd home run in as many games. Rager finished the day with 2 RBI’s and two runs scored. Bobby Boeche and Spike Einsiedler both had multi hit performances on the afternoon. Boeche went 2 for 4 with a single and a double, scoring twice and driving in 2 runs. Einsiedler connected for 3 hits on the day, with two going for doubles. He also drove in two runs and scored once. Starting pitcher Sean Gilbert gave the Hens 5.1 strong innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits with 3 strike outs and 3 walks. Sonny Mott picked up the save, pitching the remaining 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit. The Hens did their damage early, tallying 3 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings.
The Hens played host to Westmont on the 14th and came away a winner by the score of 7-4. Matt Rager started the scoring with his second home run in as many games. Rob Ruiz also had a good day at the plate, going 1 for 2 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored. Mike Renery threw 3 strong innings for the Hens, giving up just one hit with no runs. Spike Einsiedler also threw 3 great innings for the Hens, giving up just one hit, and getting 9 outs on 9 batters.
The Hens opened up their season on Friday the 9th against a tough Chapman team. The Hens fell to the Panthers by a score of 8-4. Spike Einsiedler went 2 for 4 on the day with 2 doubles and an RBI. Matt Rager went 2 for 4 as well, with one of those hits leaving the yard for his first home-run of the young season. Luke Smude also had a two-hit performance on the day. The Hens produced 12 hits on the afternoon, just one fewer than the Panthers. The Sagehens got something going in the bottom half of the 9th inning but the rally ended after the 3rd run of the inning crossed the plate.
The Sagehens will begin SCIAC play at home on the 23rd against Redlands.

| Pomona-Pitzer's women's track team hosted 600 individuals Saturday at Strehle Track in the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet.
Sara Hastings cleared 9'0 in the pole vault to equal her own school record. Later, Hastings came back to clock 13.71 in the 100m. In the 3000m, frosh Heather Callahan clocked 11:39.86 in the 3000m. Senior Samantha Hauff threw 105'3 in the javeline and triple jumped 31'6.

| Pomona-Pitzer's men's track team hosted 600 individuals Saturday at Strehle Track in the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet.
Kevin Hettrich ran in the 100m (11.92), Greg Teplow ran the 200m (23.44), Adam Rick ran the 400m (53.99), Adam Boardman took 2nd in the 3000m (8:46.30), Aristides Polychronopoulos threw 156'2 in the hammer.
