Men's Basketball
Overall: 14-7 SCIAC: 7-3
With a standing room only crowd, the Sagehens sent the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Stags home alone on Valentine's Day, 73-59. David Knowles led the Sagehens with
21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals, and Tyler Velton added 11 points and 7
rebounds. The Hens took an early lead and never looked back; they led 30-22 at
halftime, and shot 52% after the break. The defense forced 14 turnovers, 9
steals, and 8 blocked shots, 4 by Alex Lloyd. On Wednesday the Sagehens
take on La Verne across town at 7:30 pm.
The University of Redlands Bulldogs used a 48 point second half to narrowly
defeat the visiting Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 93-92 on Wednesday. Tyler Velton
scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the loss, and Alex Lloyd added
13 points and 8 rebounds. The Sagehens shot 53% from the field for the game, but
only 47% in the second half. Facing a team the attempted 52 three-pointers,
there was no room for sub 50% shooting, and this proved to be the difference. On
Saturday the Sagehens host campus-rival CMS at 7:30 pm.
Edward Wexler-Beron led all scorers with 13 points as the Sagehens defeated
Whittier College on Saturday. Mark Erler, Andrew Grant, and Tyler Velton each
added 10 points as free throws proved to be the difference in the contest. The
Sagehens made 11 free throws in the first half and 22 in the second half to pull
away from the Poets. On Wednesday the Hens visit Redlands for what promises to
be a high-scoring affair.
Caltech shot 33% from outside, and made the Sagehens sweat early before
pulling away with a 73-29 win over the Beavers on Wednesday. Edward Wexler-Beron
led all scorers with 14 points in 13 minutes and was perfect (4-4) from the
field and the line (6-6). On Saturday the Hens travel to Whittier for a 7:30 pm
game.

It is hard to shoot 28.6% from the field and win, as was the case on Tuesday
when the Sagehens lost to rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 75-39. Caroline Crocker
led the Hens in scoring with 11 points, on a night that saw them go 0-13 from
outside, turn the ball over 20 times, and hand out just 5 assists. On Friday the
Hens host Whittier at 7:30 pm.
Caroline Crocker scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Sagehens
defeated the visiting La Verne Leopards 73-68 Friday. Shooting 8-10 from
three-point range in the first half, the Hens jumped out to a 47-29 halftime
lead. Autumn Niibu and Cynthia Ting were each 3-4 from outside. In the second
half, key free throws by Alana Casner preserved the win.
Christina Hwang's 13 points paced the Sagehens as the easily dispatched
Caltech 64-13 on Tuesday. Hwang was 4-7 from the field including 3-5 from
three-point range. The Hens led in every offensive category, and everyone was
able to log significant playing time in the win. On Friday, they take on the
University of La Verne at home.
Occidental College outscored Pomona-Pitzer 37-25 in the second half to pull
away with a 70-57 win on Friday night. Caroline Crocker paced the Hen's with 16
points and six rebounds, and Alana Casner added 14 points and five steals. The
Sagehens shot just 24% in the second half after trailing by just one point
(32-33) at the half. On Tuesday the Hens visit Caltech for a 7:30 pm game.
Free throws proved costly on Tuesday night as the Sagehens shot 39% from the
line en route to a 61-57 loss to Redlands. Freshman Alana Casner recorded her
first career triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, 11 steals, and 5
assists, but missed two crucial free throws with 26 seconds left and the Hens
down by two. Caroline Crocker recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10
boards. Pomona-Pitzer shot 38% from the field for the game and committed 26
turnovers, but kept it close by forcing 29 from the Bulldogs. On Friday the
Sagehens travel to Occidental for a 7:30 game.

the top SCIAC teams. In the unique team best-ball format, the team of Sophomore
Dylan Pelletier-Ross and Freshman Pat Kelly lead the Hens with a team score of
75. The team of Senior Drew Staniewski and Junior Ben Nightingale also posted a
75 as an individual entry. Their total did not count towards the Pomona-Pitzer
team score, 15 over par, which was still good enough to edge neighboring rivals
CMS for 4th place overall. Host Redlands won with a team total of 3 under par.
