The men's swim/dive team (3-7-1, 2-3-1) finished 42nd at Nationals. Ben Komer placed 7th in the 50 freestyle at the meet, earning him All-American honors. Komer recorded his lifetime best time in the event, swimming the 50 in :21.05, a mark that broke his own school record. Komer is a junior this year and will be back to lead the team next year.

The women's swim/dive team (9-3, 5-1), like the men, finished 42nd at Nationals. Lucia Schmit was an honorable mention All-American in the 200 IM with her 16th place finish in the event. In the 800 Free Relay, the team of Sarah Kalhorn, Jacquie Cole, Lucia Schmit, and Lizzy Davis finished in 15th place, also earning honorable mention All-American honors. Kate Bollinger had a standout performance as well as she placed 15th in the 200 Fly, a spot that earned her All-American honors. Overall, 9 lifetime best times were recorded at the meet for the Sagehen women.

| The women's softball team (2-21, 0-9) played a double header against Redlands on the 24th and dropped both contests to the Bulldogs by scores of 8-0 and 5-0. In the first game of the day, Jaeda dos Santos went 1 for 2, running out a double. In the 2nd game of the afternoon, dos Santos again went 1 for 2, as did Megan Edouarde, hitting a double and stealing a base. Shannon Russel pitched the complete game for the Hens, allowing just 3 earned runs and striking out a batter.
The Hens played Redlands on the 23rd and fell to the Bulldogs by the score of 10-1. Sharon Silveira was responsible for the lone RBI on the day, scoring Alicia Juskewycz. Ashley Thompson went 1 for 2 on the day for the Hens.
The Hens traveled to La Verne on the 2nd of March and came up short to the host Leos by the score of 10-0. The Hens managed just one hit on the afternoon, that by Meghan
Edouarde.
The Hens hosted rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the 23rd and fell by a score of 11-1. Sharon Silveira produced the lone RBI on the day for Hens as she went 1 for 3 on the day with a double. Catcher Alicia Juskewycz threw out 2 runners during the game. Juskewycz also got a hit on the day as well as a stolen base.
The Sagehens hosted a double header on the 21st and came away with two tough losses to visiting Hope International. Game 1 saw the visiting squad win by the score of 3-1. Ashley Thompson was the best hitter on the day as she went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, scoring Alicia Juskewycz. Shannon Russell pitched a complete game for the Hens, allowing 3 runs and striking out 3 as well. In the second game of the day, the Sagehens fell by the score of 2-0. Sharon Silveira went 3 for 4 on the day for the Hens. Jessie Coe pitched the complete game for the Hens, striking out 2 batters. The Hens produced 7 hits for the game, two more than the visiting squad.
The Hens will next compete in the Sun West Tourney at Chapman.

| The women's tennis team (5-4, 4-0) hosted the Sagehen Tennis Classic over the weekend of the 25th and played three tough matches in the process. The Hens first took on a very tough Williams squad on the 23rd and fell to the Ephs by the score of 5-4. The Hens took a 2-1 lead into singles action as they were able to win at #1 and #3 doubles, but only managed to win 2 of the 6 singles matches. The singles winners for the Hens were Sheree Schwartz at the #1 spot and Whitney Henderson at #5.
The next day saw the Hens get back on track with a 9-0 win over Pacific Lutheran University. The Hens won all six singles matches without dropping a single set and won the doubles matches without losing more than 3 games in any of the matches.
On the 25th, the Sagehens took on the defending champions in Trinity of Texas. The beginning of the match looked promising as the Hens won two of the three doubles matches. But those doubles victories would be the only wins for the Hens on the day as Trinity swept all 6 singles matches in straight sets.
The Sagehens hosted Emory on the 11th and came up just short to the visiting team, 4-5. The Hens came close to pulling off an improbable comeback, as they fell behind early, losing all three of the doubles matches. The Hens needed to win 5 of the 6 singles matches to clinch the victory. The Hens won singles matches at #’s 3, 4, 5, and 6 by Kelli Howard, Meghan Gould, Whitney Henderson, and Chelsea Heller.
The Hens traveled to La Verne on the 7th and swept the Leos by the score of 9-0. The Hen squad was not threatened in any of the 9 matches, as the team lost a combined total of only 3 games on the day. Betsy Mork got the win at #1 singles, Kelli Howard at #2, Meghan Gould at #3, Whitney Henderson at #4, Chelsea Heller at #5, and Katie Siedel at the #6 spot.
The Hens will take on Lewis & Clark and Linfield this week.

| The men's tennis squad (9-3, 4-1) hosted 2nd ranked Gustavus Adolphus on the 27th and fell to the Gusties by the score of 6-1. The Gusties stormed out to sweep the doubles matches and take a 1-0 lead into singles play. The Hens came out and played much better in singles play. J.R. Hall won at #1 in 3 sets, 7-6 in the third set. Dave Fern played well in a 6-3, 6-3 loss, and Samir Vora also played a tough match, falling 6-4, 6-3. Sam Gaines, playing at the #4 spot, extended his opponent to three sets, and Mike Benaroya and Chris Croxton were beaten in straight sets playing at #’s 5 and 6.
The Hens bounced back from a tough loss to UC Santa Cruz with a strong showing the very next day. The Hens took on and blanked the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, 7-0. The Sagehens won the doubles point behind wins from the #2 and #3 doubles teams. The Hens then went on to sweep all six singles matches for the 7-0 win. Samir Vora and Jamie Frank, playing at the 2 and 6 spots, were both extended to three sets on the day, but both came through to help the Hens earn the sweep.
On the 21st, the Hens squared off against 3rd ranked UC Santa Cruz and fell by the score of 7-0. The Hens were swept in doubles play and in singles action as well. The Hens played three close matches at #’s 1, 2, and 3, with a couple of sets reaching tiebreakers, but eventually fell in straight sets in all of the matches.
The Hens faced off against 22nd ranked College of New Jersey on the 19th and came away a winner by the score of 4-3. The Sagehens won the doubles point behind wins from the number 2 and 3 doubles tandems and then went on to win at #’s 4, 5, and 6 in singles play. Those wins in singles came from Sam Gaines at 4, Mike Benaroya at 5, and Chris Croxton at the 6th spot.
The Hens won their 7th straight match on the 10th by defeating Hardin-Simmons of Texas. The Hens lost two of the three doubles matches and therefore needed 4 of the 6 singles matches to clinch the victory. The Hens got those 4 big wins in singles play from J.R. Hall at #2, Samir Vora at #3, Sam Gaines at #4, and Aaron Johnson at #5. Chris Croxton had just split sets at the #6 spot when the match was suspended.
The Sagehens played host to La Verne on the 9th and beat the visiting Leos by the score of 7-0. The Hens swept the three doubles matches by scores of 8-3 at #1, 8-0 at #2, and 8-1 at #3. Every Sagehen singles player won their match in straight sets. Dave Fern won at the #1 position, J.R. Hall at #2, Samir Vora at #3, Sam Gaines at the #4 spot, Mike Benaroya at #5, and Chris Croxton at the 6th spot.
The Hens traveled to Cal State L.A. on the 7th and came back home 6-3 winners over the Golden Eagles. The Hens got out to a 2-1 start by taking #2 & #3 doubles by scores of 8-2 and 8-0. The Hens went on to take 4 of the 6 singles matches to close out the victory. Sam Gaines was victorious at the #3 spot with scores of 6-2, 6-2. Mike Benaroya, Jamie Frank, and Chris Croxton were also straight set winners at the 4, 5, and 6 spots in the line-up.
The Hens have a tough week ahead against two northwest rivals in Linfield and Pacific Lutheran.

| The men's baseball squad (14-6, 7-1) traveled to Whittier on the 24th for two games with the Poets. The Hens swept the afternoon double header by scores of 8-5 and 8-4. Both games had to be settled in the 10th inning, and both times Matt Rager knocked in the game winning RBI. In game 1, the Hens were up 5-0 going into the bottom of the 8th inning. A run in the 8th and 4 more in the 9th got the Poets into extra innings, but the Hens tallied 3 in their first at bat and those runs proved to be enough for the victory. Adam Gardner got the start for the Hens going 8 innings, allowing 4 runs and striking out 8 batters. Mike Renery came on in relief and got the win for the Hens. Game 2 was quite similar to the first as the Hens took a 2-run lead into the bottom of the 9th. The Poets again got the game into extra innings before the Hens tallied 4 in the top of the 10th. Spike Einsiedler started the game on the mound for the Hens, pitching 8 innings and allowing just one earned run. In addition to game winning RBI, Matt Rager also got the win for the Hens, pitching the final 2 innings, allowing just one hit and no earned runs. Jose Cortez also had a big day at the plate for the Hens, as he went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs.
The Hens hosted Whittier on the 23rd and came up short to the Poets by a score of 6-1. This loss was the first this year for the Hens in SCIAC play. Alan Flores was the best hitter on the day for the Hens, going 3 for 3 at the plate. Sonny Mott started for the Hens today and got the loss, going 4 innings, allowing 8 hits and 4 runs. Bobby Boeche accounted for the lone RBI for the Hens.
The Sagehens put up 19 runs for the second straight game, this time against the North Central team in a 19-6 victory on the 21st. Luke Smude led the way offensively for the Sagehens, going 3 for 5 on the day with a double, a triple, 6 RBI’s and 3 runs scored. Spike Einsiedler also had a big day at the plate for the Hens, going 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 4 RBI’s. Alex Smith, one of 5 Hens hurlers to see action, got the win for the Sagehens. Smith pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 hits.
The Hens played host to U-Mass Dartmouth on the 19th and were victorious in a big way, claiming a 19-5 win. The Hens got 12 runs in the first 3 innings of play and never looked back. On the day, Jose Cortez went 4 for 4 with a home run, 2 doubles, 5 RBI’s, and 3 runs scored. Bobby Boeche went 3 for 5 on the day with a home run, a double, 3 RBI’s, and 3 runs. Matt Rager also had a big day at the plate, collecting 3 RBI’s, scoring twice, on 3 of 4 batting. Alan Flores was also a Hen with a 3 hit day as he went 3 for 6 with 3 runs scored. Adam Gardner got the win for the Hens, going 7 innings, allowing just 1 hit, 1 run(unearned), walking just one, and striking out 5.
The Hens traveled to the University of San Diego on the 18th to take on Dartmouth of the Ivy League. Dartmouth upended the Hens by the score of 8-5. The Hens just ran out of time, as they got going late in the game, scoring all of their runs in the final two innings of play. Matt Rager went 2 for 4 on the day with a triple, an RBI, and a run. Alan Flores went 2 for 2 on the day with a run scored. Luke Smude hit a 2-run home run on the day as well. Sonny Mott started the game for the Hens, and was relieved by Mike Renery in the 4th. Jeff Lamb came in to pitch in the 6th, and Alex Smith came in to pitch the 8th.
The Hens will next compete against La Verne this coming
weekend.

| The women's track & field (1-1, 1-1) team competed at La Verne on the 23rd and the Hens saw many personal records improved upon. Lily Holmes set personal records in both the 100 and 200 events, while Jamie Burns set a PR in the 1500. Jeaneen Chapman set a personal best in the shotput as did Alex Hui in the Hammer.
In her first-ever attempt at the distance, sophomore Laura Bishop broke Pomona-Pitzer's school record in the 5000m (3.1mile) run Friday night the 17th at the Occidental Distance Carnival. Bishop ran in third place for the first two miles, then took the lead and won the race in 17:50.34 over NCAA I runners. Her time is also an national meet provisional qualifying mark. Bishop broke the former school record of 17:51.9 by Amy Phillips that had stood since 1984. Bishop's fine clocking came just a week after running 10:18.42 in the 3000 at the CSU Fullerton Invite--the third-fastest time in school history.
Also at the CSUF meet, Jeaneen Chapman threw the hammer a personal-best 142'1--also the third-best mark in school history. In addition, sophomore Erin Wagner ran the 5000m in a huge personal best of 20:08 to demolish her previous best of 21:59.
The Hens will compete this weekend at UC Riverside.

| The men's track & field (2-0, 2-0) participated at Cal State Northridge on the 23rd where Ari Polychronopolous provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the Hammer throw with a mark of 170’-2”. That mark placed Ari in 8th place all time at
Pomona-Pitzer. At La Verne on the 23rd, Adam Boardman set a personal record in the 1500.
Senior Adam Boardman ran 9:14.44 in the 3000m steeplechase Friday at the Occidental Distance Carnival to provisionally qualify to the NCAA Championships in May. Boardman's time is a personal best and moves him to the #4 spot all-time in Pomona-Pitzer history.
Also at the Occidental meet, frosh Matt Franck ran a strong 32:28 in the 10,000m (6.2 miles) in his first outing at the distance. That mark is #6 all-time in school history.
The Hens will compete this weekend at UC Riverside.

| The women's water polo team (3-4, 0-0) participated in the Claremont Colleges tournament over the weekend of the 17th. The Hens finished in the middle of the pack with a 2-2 record over the 2-day tournament. The Hens were victorious over the University of Arizona by the score of 16-2 and over La Verne by the tally of 8-7. The Hens were upended during the weekend by Occidental College by the score of 8-5 and by Cal Poly SLO by the score of 13-6. Blair Henderson led the Sagehens in goals scored over the weekend with 10 goals in the 4 games. Lucia Schmit contributed 6 goals for the Hens as well.
The Hens next take on Cal Baptist at home on the 28th.

| The men's golf team competed in the CSU Monterey Bay Invitational and finished in 14th place for the weekend with a 3-day total of 989. R.G. Manalac and Duke Gray were the top scorers for the Hens with 3-day totals of 246 and 248, respectively.
The Hens took on Whittier at the Hacienda course on the 27th and defeated the Poets by the score of 315 to 332. Luc Shuster and R.G. Manalac led the charge for the Sagehen squad with scores of 76 and 78, respectively.
The Hens participated in the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen Invitational on the weekend of the 12th. Ben Hochstein and Drew Stanlewski were the top performers for the Hens, as both shot two day totals of 150.
At the Sagehen Invitational on the 15th, the Hens finished in 2nd place behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and in front of Occidental. The two day total for the Hens was 643. CMS was 19 strokes better with a 624 and Occidental came in with a 703. Luc Shuster was the individual champion of the invitational with his 2-day total of 153. Duke Gray came in 6th place overall with a 161. Shuster’s 153 was 2 strokes better than that of the next finisher.
The Hens will be back in action on the 12th in the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen Invitational.
