The Sagehen women fell to Chapman in the opening round
of the NCAA Tournament, 78-65. The Hens earned a
berth in the tournament by winning the SCIAC
title. Tamara Zakim led the Hens offensively in
the game, tallying 23 points on the night on 6 of 15
shooting from the floor, and 11 of 11 from the
free-throw line. Gre'Juana Dennis and Lindsay Hill
each had 12 points for the Hen effort and Dennis had a
team high 8 boards on the night. In the game, the
Panthers shot over 50 % from the floor, holding the Hens
to 35 % on the night.

The Hens' Ben Komer is currently preparing for the NCAA
meet. He will participate in the 100 Free, 50 Free,
and 100 Butterfly. Ben will go into the meet with the
3rd fastest 50 Free time in the nation.

The Hens traveled north to Santa Cruz for two matches on the
9th. The Hens fell to national power U.C. Santa Cruz, 6-1, but
then came back to defeat Hardin-Simmons in the afternoon, 4-3.
Against UCSC, the Hens won at the #2 doubles position with Mike
Benaroya and Sam Gaines and at #6 singles with Jamie Frank.
Sam Gaines lost a tough 3-setter at the #3 spot. Complete

Against the Cowboys of Hardin-Simmons, the Hens snuck by with a 4-3
win in a match that came down to the third set of the #6 singles
match. Jamie Frank took that final set, 6-3, to clinch the Hen
win. Other singles winners on the day were Samir Vora at #2,
Sam Gaines at #3, and Nate Pealer at #5. Complete
Results
The Sagehen men were beaten by the Eagles of Mary Washington on the
5th, 5-2. The Hens were able to get a win at the #1 doubles
position, but lost the doubles point by dropping the doubles matches
at #'s 2 and 3. Pomona-Pitzer got two singles wins at #'s 5 and 6
from Jamie Frank and Mike Benaroya. Complete
Results
Pomona-Pitzer travelled to Occidental on March 2nd and beat the Tigers, 6-1. The
Hens easily swept the three doubles matches and then went on to win 5 of the 6
singles matches to claim the victory. Winning for the Hens were J.R. Hall at #1,
Samir Vora at #2, Sam Gaines at #3, Chris Croxton at the 4th spot, and Mike
Benaroya at the #6 position. Complete

The Sagehen women took two of three games from Redlands on the 8th
and 9th of March for their first two victories of the season.
In game 1, the Hens tallied 7 runs in the first 3 innings, and then
held on for the 8-7 win. Leinne Stien led the Hens with a hit,
a run, and 2 RBI's in the game. In game 2, the Hens came up
with all 13 runs in the final four innings, with 5 in the last, to
come from behind for the 13-9 win. Jameela Hammond had 3 hits,
3 runs, and an RBI for the Sagehens. Karen Hamilton and Rosa
Jimenez each had two hits in the game. The Hens lost the final
game of the series, 7-6. Alison Mathes had two hits for the
Hens, and Leinne Stein had a hit and scored twice.
Pomona-Pitzer played twice on the 6th of March, and fell in both
contests. In the first game of the day, the Hens were defeated
by Cabrini, 7-0. Leanne Stein had 2 of the 5 Hen hits on the
day. Jameela Hammond, Rosa Jimenez, and Stephanie Lazano each
had a base hit for the Sagehen squad. Game 2 saw the Hens fall
to the Panthers of Chapman, 4-0. Jocelyn Burke and Jameela
Hammond had the only hits of the game for the Hens.
The Hens fell twice to The Master's on the 27th of February, 7-1 and 11-1. In game
1, the Hens' two hits came from Jocelyn Burke and Jameela Hammond. Pitcher Karen
Hamilton, who gave up just 5 hits on the day, provided the lone RBI in the game for the Hens.
In game 2, Jocelyn Burke was 1 for 1 with a double, a walk, and a run scored.
Leinne Stein was 1 for 2 on the day and Amy Bertken was 1 for 2 with an RBI for Pomona-Pitzer.
Pomona-Pitzer was swept in a three game set with La Verne over the 1st and 2nd of March.
In game 1, Sagehen hits came from Amy Bertken, Jocelyn Burke, and Leinne Stein. Monica Belli and Karen
Hamilton split time on the mound for the Hens. Game 2 of the series saw more of the same
from the Hens, as Pomona-Pitzer was shutout and held to just one hit by Shannon Coggins.
Jocelyn Burke and Stephanie Lazano provided the two Sagehen hits in the 3rd game of the
series. The Hens commit 6 errors over the 3 game series.

The Hen men continued to roll in SCIAC play by sweeping another hard
fought series, this time from La Verne. The Hens won by scores
of 4-3, 5-1, and 3-0. Game 1 saw the Hens get down early but
come back to score 3 runs in the 6th to grab the lead. Alan
Flores and Luke Smude led the squad with 2 hits each. Mike
Renery got the win for the Hens. In game 2, Jose Cortez and
Matt Rager sparked the Hen win by going a combined 7 for 8.
Each had a double, a run, and an RBI in the game. Adam Gardner
got the win by pitching 8 strong innings, allowing just 3
hits. In the final game of the series, the Hens scored all 3
of their runs in the first 2 innings and blanked the Leos for all 9
of theirs. Rob Ruiz had a home run and had all 3 of the Hens'
RBI's in the game. Ollie Morrison and Jose Cortez had 2 hits
apiece in the game. Matt Rager, Josh Cardwell, and Alex Smith
split time on the mound for the Hens.
The Sagehen baseball squad stayed unbeaten in SCIAC play with a three game sweep of Whittier on the
1st and 2nd of March. In Friday's game at Whittier, the Hens exploded for 15 runs in the game. The score was
tied at 5 all going into the 6th inning, but the Hens put 10 runs up in 3 of the final 4 innings of play.
The leading hitters for the Hens were Alan Flores and Jase Turner. Flores went 4 for 6 with 3 doubles,
3 RBI's and 3 runs. Turner was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Spike Einsiedler pitched a complete game for
the win, giving up just 4 hits and 1 earned run.
In game 2 of the series, the Hens got 6 early runs in the game and then held off a late charge
by the Poets to earn the 6-4 win. Jose Cortez and Jase Turner each had 2 hits in the game. Each had a double and an RBI as well.
Adam Gardner earned the win, pitching 7.1 innings with 11 strikeouts, giving up just 6 hits and 2 runs.
In the final game of the 3 game set, the Hens tallied 6 runs in their final three at bats to claim the 6-1 victory. Ollie Morrison had 3 hits
for the Hens, with 2 doubles, a triple, and 3 RBI's. Luke Smude went 1 for 3, and his hit was a 2 run homerun that gave the Sagehens the lead in the
6th inning of play. Mike Renery pitched a complete game for the Hens, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 8 and walking just 4 batters.

The Hens hosted Kenyon on the 8th and defeated the visiting team,
8-1. The Hens took 2 of the 3 doubles matches and then went on
to sweep all 6 singles matches for the convincing win. Sheree
Schwartz and Betsy Mork won handily at #'s 1 and 2,

The women's tennis squad was halfway through their match with
Washington University when heavy rain forced the match to be
cancelled. No made up date was scheduled.
The Hens remained unbeated on the young season by blaking Occidental, 9-0 on the 1st of March.
Only 2 Hen netters were extended to 3 sets on the day. In doubles action, the #1 tandem of Sheree Schwartz and
Whitney Henderson had a tough match, but pulled it out 9-7. Schwartz then went on to win
convincingly at the #1 spot, 6-1, 6-1. Also winning in impressive fashion for the Sagehens were Betsy Mork at #2, and
Ginger Wachler playing at the #6 position. Complete

Water Polo

|
The Hens traveled down to San Diego and fell to the Tritons
of UCSD, 13-5. The Hens were down by just 2 at
halftime but the Tritons outscored the Hens 5-0 in the 3rd
period to pull away. Joy Haviland scored 2 goals to
lead the Hen offensive effort. Morgan Sokolow had 5
saves in net as well as 5 steals for the Sagehen
squad.
The Sagehens took 3 of 4 games on March 2nd and 3rd during
the Claremont Colleges Invitational. On Saturday the
2nd, the Hens won games over Fresno State and C.S.
Northridge. Joy Haviland led the team with 9 goals
over the two game stretch. Toby Branz chipped in with
5 goals, 4 coming against Fresno State. Jacquie Cole
had 4 goals in the same two game period. Morgan
Sokolow made 3 stops in net in each of the two
contests.
On Day 2 of the tournament, the Hens opened up play with a
narrow 5-4 defeat at the hands of SCIAC rival
Occidental. Blair Henderson led the Hens by scoring
half of the 4 goals in the game as well as leading the team
in steal with 4. Morgan Sokolow had 10 saves in net
for the Hens. Pomona-Pitzer outshot Oxy 29-15.
In the second game of the day, the Hens got back to their
winning ways by taking out George Washington, 8-5. Joy
Haviland again led the team in scoring with 3 goals in the
game. Morgan Sokolow made 5 saves and Blair Henderson
had 6 steals in the game.

The Hens defeated Caltech on the 4th, 321-351. The match was
held at Brookside #1 and Luc Schuster had the best round of the day
with a 76. Every other Hen golfer came in in the 80's.
Joe Gill shot an 81, Ben Hochstein and Drew Staniewski each came in
with an 82 on the day.
The Hens took on La Verne on the 28th of February and fell to the Leos, 323-294.
Joe Gill and R.G. Manalac each broke 80 with a 79 on the afternoon, but the Hen
team could not overcome a Leo squad that saw everyone in the 70's. Ben Hochstein shot an 82 for Pomona-Pitzer
and Scott Pearsall came in with an 83 on the day.

Pomona-Pitzer's men's track & field team easily handled Caltech
and Cal Lutheran at home Saturday the 9th in a multi-dual SCIAC meet
on Strehle Track. Overall winners for the Sagehens included
Braden Boice in the steeplechase (10:12.18), Mike Kirtman in the 400
hurdles (56.83), and Chris Avery in the discus (135'11). Other
strong marks came from Jon Samples in the 100m (11.16) and 200
(23.02), and Matt Hermsen in the triple jump (41'6).
Pomona-Pitzer's men's track & field team earned dual meet
victories over Redlands (138-48) and Whittier (120-76) Saturday the
2nd at
Whittier.
The Sagehens were led by victories in the 400 hurdles (Joe Cappola
in 56.68) and 5000m (Nate DeFelice in 16:16.31). Other strong marks
were recorded by Mark Melief in the pole vault (12'6), Jon Samples
in the 100m (11.19), and Jake Oken Berg in the 800 (2:00.44).

Track & Field 4-0 Overall 4-0 SCIAC

Pomona-Pitzer's women's track & field team downed Cal Lutheran
and Caltech Saturday the 9th in a SCIAC multi-dual meet at home on
Strehle Track. The Sagehens had overall wins from Stefanie McDougall
in the 1500 (4:55.02) and Heather Callahan in the steeplechase
(12:12.21), which breaks her school record from a week prior. In
addition, Lily Desmond (2:27:34) and Susie Roley (2:29.72) clocked
personal bests in the 800m, while Gre'Juana Dennis earned strong
marks in the 100m (13.37) and long jump (16'0 1/4), which ties the
#10 mark all-time in P-P history. Hammer throwers Raketa Ouedraogo
(117'0), Anna Bruett (116'6), and Karanda Bowman (90'3) all recorded
personal bests.
Senior Sara Hastings pole vaulted 10'6 Saturday the 2nd to lead the Sagehen
women's track & field team to two victories over Whittier and
Redlands. Hastings' mark is a school record and an NCAA III
provisional qualifying mark. Pomona-Pitzer downed Redlands, 108-57,
and defeated Whittier, 107-41, at Whittier.
Other Sagehen wins came from sophomore Stefanie McDougall, who
clocked 2:18.53 in the 800m and junior Laura Bishop, who won the
1500m in 4:53.28. Sophomore Heather Callahan set a school record in
the 3000m steeplechase in 12:26.05, while sophomore Anna Bruett
threw the hammer 106'7 for a personal best.
