Pomona-Pitzer kicked off the new season by splitting 2 games
at the Lopata Classic in St. Louis, hosted by Washington
University. In the first game of the tournament, the
Hens took on MIT and won by the score of 59-46. Thomas
Hollo and Gavin Cree were the only Sagehens in double
figures, with 11 and 10, respectively. Alexander Lloyd
pulled down a game high 13 boards in the contest. In
the 2nd and final game, the Hens took on host Washington and
fell by the count of 77-44. Edward Wexler-Beron was
the only Hen in double figures with 12 points, while Lloyd
and Tyler Velten chipped in with 7 and 5, respectively.
Velten led the squad with 7 rebounds in the game and Lloyd
also denied 3 shots. Pomona-Pitzer had a tough night
from the floor, shooting just 26 % in the contest.
Alexander Lloyd was named to the All-Touranment team for his
efforts over the weekend.

Men's
Water Polo
7-21 Overall 5-4 SCIAC

Pomona-Pitzer finished 5th at the SCIAC Tournament, held at
Redlands on the 16th and 17th of November. In the
first round of action, the Hens lost a tight 5-4 contest to
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Glenn Anderson led the
Sagehens with 2 goals in that game. Carlo Diy made 9
saves in that opening game. With that loss, the Hens
could finish no higher than 5th at the tournament, and that
is just what they did by beating both Caltech and
Occidental. Against Caltech, 7 different Hen players
found the back of the net on the way to a convincing 12-6
win. Diy made 7 saves in the cage for the Hens.
Against Occidental, the Hens did all of their scoring in the
first half and then held on for the 6-5 win. Ben
Speicher had 4 of the Hens' 6 goals, with Glenn Anderson and
Chris Prochnow accounting for the other 2 goals.
Anderson and Ian Kusow each had 2 assists for Pomona-Pitzer.
Diy made 8 saves for the Sagehens in the 5th place contest.

Women's Cross Country

Frosh Amy Rapp paced the Pomona-Pitzer women's cross country
team to an 8th place team finish out of 15 teams Saturday at
the NCAA III West Regional meet at Prado Park, Chino. Rapp
finished in 18th place with a time of 23:30 over the 6000m
course (3.7 mile), and was quickly followed by Ann Prouty
(22nd, 23:39), Nika Strzelecka (39th, 24:27), Susie Roley
(48th, 24:51), and Laura Bishop (62nd, 25:20). Whitworth, WA
won the meet with 66 points, while Pomona-Pitzer tallied 183
for eighth.

Men's Cross Country 6-1

Frosh Crosby Freeman scorched the course Saturday the 23rd
at the NCAA Division III National Championships to become
only the third cross country All American in school history
for Pomona-Pitzer. Freeman finished 31st out of 215 runners
in 25:46.6 over the 8000m (5 miles) course, and was the
second freshman across the line. The national meet was
hosted by St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. Freeman
(Piedmont HS, CA, 2002) was second in the SCIAC
Championships and fifth at the West Region meet this season
for Pomona-Pitzer. He joins Gerry Harnett '79 and Adam
Boardman '01 as the only All Americans for Pomona-Pitzer
men's cross country.
Pomona College frosh Crosby Freeman finished fifth Saturday
at the NCAA III West Region Cross Country meet in Prado
Park, Chino to qualify to the NCAA III National
Championships this weekend. The first freshman finisher in
the race, Freeman clocked 25:41 over the 8000m (5 mile)
course to earn the first of five individual spots out of the
Region. Freeman will race Saturday in the National meet
hosted by St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
Freeman has been Pomona-Pitzer's top runner all season, and
at Regionals he led Pomona-Pitzer's team to a fifth-place
finish out of 13 teams. The Sagehens tallied 143 points to
finish behind Willamette, OR (46), Puget Sound, WA (50),
Claremont-M-S (54), and Colorado College (100).
Other scoring Hens included: Nate DeFelice (26th, 27:10),
Golden Krishna (33rd, 27:26), David Marshall (39th, 27:38),
and Braden Boice (47th, 28:02).

Alex Jakle, Andy Vonasch and Ben
Demarchelier led a parade of improved Sagehen swimmers to a
fourth place finish at the CMS Winter Invite over the
weekend. Jakle finished 3rd in both Backstroke
events, Vonasch was in the top 5 in both Breaststroke
events and the 400 Individual Medley, Demarchelier was third
in the 100 free. Frosh Steve Hooper won the iron man award
for his strong finish in 4 tough events –200 free, 500 free,
1650 free and 200 fly. The next competition for the Hen’s
is the Speedo Cup Meet in early December.

Elana McDermott and Valerie Stout paced a strong Sagehen
effort at the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Invitational.
Pomona-Pitzer finished 3rd out of 11 teams in the meet,
behind only powerhouses Loyola Marymount and Cal Baptist.
McDermott, a frosh, placed 2nd in the 500 Free, 2nd in the
200 Free, and 2nd in the 1650 Free. Stout, a
sophomore, had a great meet, finishing 2nd in the 200 I.M.,
1st in the 100 Breaststroke, and 1st in the 200
Breaststroke. Other strong individual performances
came from Kathleen Foley in the 100 Backstroke (4th), Sarah
Ball in the 100 Backstroke (2nd), Also swimming strong races
for the Hens were the 400 Medley Relay team (3rd), the 200
Medley Relay team (2nd), and the 400 Free Relay team (5th).
Pomona-Pitzer dominated Chapman at home on the morning of
the 9th, 163-62. The Hen team got many strong
performances, and among those were wins by the 400 Medley
Relay team, Lucy Keller in the 1650 Free, Elana McDermott in
the 100, 200, and 500 Free, Kathleen Foley in the 50 Free,
Valerie Stout in the 200 Individual Medley, Joanne Sheng in
the 100 Butterfly, Sara Ball in the 100 Backstroke, and
Annie Lindberg in both diving events.
The Sagehen women opened up the season with a 3rd place
finish at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
The Hens finished behind only Cal Baptist and Redlands.
Elana McDermott swam a 17:50.27 1650 Free to provisionally
qualify to the national meet. Winning races for the
Hens were the 200 Medley Relay team, the 800 Free Relay
team, Sara Ball in the 100 and 200 Backstroke, Lucia Schmit
in the 400 Individual Medley, Valerie Stout in the 200
Butterfly, and McDermitt in the 1650 Free.
