Bi-Weekly Write-up - November 26, 2001  
Men's Basketball              2-2 Overall        0-0 SCIAC
  On the second day of the David Wells Classic, the Sagehens played Southwestern (TX) at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and came away one point winners after a last second basket by Alexander Lloyd.  Tyler Velten led the team in scoring on the night with 14 points.  Mark Erler was next in line with 12 points and a team high 6 rebounds.  The Hens were able to get the victory despite going just 17 of 34 from the free throw line.

The Hens took on and fell to Savannah College of Art & Design on the Friday the 23rd, the first day of the David Wells Classic.  The Hens went into halftime with a one point lead but got outscored by 17 in the second half.  Alexander Lloyd came off the bench to lead the team with 13 points.  Tyler Velten had a good game as well with 11 points and 7 boards on the night.  

The Hen squad evened their record at 1-1 on the young season with a victory over visiting Hope International on the 17th.  Andrew Grant and Tyler Velten led the team offensively with 16 and 13 points, respectively.  Velten also had a team high 8 rebounds on the night.  The Sagehens outrebounded the Royals of Hope International, 47-34.  

The Sagehens kicked off their 2001-2002 season at home against the Wildcats of Linfield on the 16th and fell to the visiting squad by the score of 71-61.  Mark Erler led the Hens in scoring with 14 points on the night, while Tyler Velten chipped in with 9 of his own.  Andrew Grant grabbed a game high 9 rebounds and Velten pulled down 8 boards of his own.  The Hens struggled from the 3-point line, shooting just 2 of 17 for the game.  The Hens were good from the line, however, shooting 72 %, going 15 of 21 from the charity stripe.


Women's Basketball         2-1 Overall       0-0 SCIAC
  On the second day of competition at the David Wells Classic, the Hen team fell to Southwestern (TX) by the score of 67-47.  Lindsay Hill was the only Sagehen in double digits with 11 points on the night.  She also gathered 6 boards for the Hens.  Andrea Lievana came off the bench to score 6 points and grab 8 rebounds for Pomona-Pitzer.  

The Hen squad played host to Willamette on Friday the 23rd, the first day of the David Wells Classic.  Pomona-Pitzer beat the visiting squad by the score of 60-53.  Tamara Zakim led the Hen effort with 22 points and 12 boards on the night.  Lindsay Hill chipped in with 10 points and 13 rebounds of her own.  Pomona-Pitzer outrebounded the Willamette squad by 20 boards on the night.

Pomona-Pitzer opened up its season with a win over visiting Hamline University of Minnesota on the 19th.  Three Hens scored in double figures on the night as Tamara Zakim led the offensive charge with 20 points, as Lindsay Hill and Leigh Ferrin each chipped in with 12 apiece.  Hill and Ferrin also led the team with 6 rebounds apiece.  The Hen squad shot just under 50% from the floor on the evening.  


Men's Swimming/Diving       0-0 Overall  0-0 SCIAC

Women's Swimming/Diving 0-0 Overall  0-0 SCIAC
The Women's Swimming and Diving Team traveled to La Verne on the 17th and fell to the Leos by the score of 124-114.  Sixteen season best times were recorded by the Sagehens on the day, including 3 each from Alison Davis and Jacquie Cole.  Lucy Keller and Valeria Stout were both 2-time first place finishers on the afternoon.
Women's Cross Country  5-2 Overall      5-2 SCIAC
Because of stomach nausea, Junior Laura Bishop did not finish the race Saturday the 17th  at the NCAA III National Cross Country Championships hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.

Bishop, a two-time SCIAC Runner of the Year, started the race and was running well in 18th place past the 2.5 mile mark of the 5000m (3.1 mile) race when repeated bouts of vomiting forced her to abandon her race.
