About the Program:
The Pomona-Pitzer baseball program competes at the NCAA Division III level and
is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(SCIAC). Official practice starts in January and the first games take place in
early February. Pomona-Pitzer plays the NCAA Division III maximum of 40 games,
including a three game series against each conference opponent. The winner of
the regular season conference championship gains an automatic bid to the NCAA
Division III Tounrnament.
In addition to the conference schedule, the baseball program plays an extremely
challenging non-conference schedule including regional opponents Chapman and Cal
State Hayward. In recent years the Sagehens have also played Dartmouth College
(Division I, Ivy League), UC San Diego (Division II, CCAA), and perennial
Division III power Eastern Connecticut.
During the 2002 and 2003 seasons, the Sagehens captured back-to-back SCIAC
championships, earned two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III
Baseball Championships, and compiled an impressive 36-3 league record (66-18
overall). As a member of the Pomona-Pitzer baseball team, student-athletes have
the unique opportunity of pursing academic excellence at prestigious
institutions while participating in a nationally competitive baseball program. |
