The 2007-2008 Sagehen Men's Basketball Team
About the Program:
Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball has established itself as one of the
nation's premiere NCAA Division III programs. Since 1986 the Sagehens
have made eleven trips to the NCAA
National Tournament and captured eleven Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships (1986,
1989, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2008). Coach Kat has
maintained a program passed on to him by former Sagehen head coach and
current San Antonio Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich that is built on
sound suffocating defense and outstanding rebounding. Pomona-Pitzer has
been among the nation's leaders numerous times in field goal percentage
defense and team rebounding. Coach Kat and his staff have built their offensive philosophy around an aggressive transition game, based on crisp ball and player moevement.

A staple of the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball Program continues to
be its competitive non-conference schedule. In the past the Sagehens
have faced NCAA Division I opponents, such as UC Irvine and University of
San Diego, NCAA Division II teams including Cal St. Dominguez Hills and
Cal Poly Pomona, and NAIA powers like Azusa Pacific Univeristy, Concordia-Irvine University, and Biola. Pomona-Pitzer has traveled to St. Louis, Colorado
Springs, Portland, Philadelphia, and Tacoma over the years to face
competition. The Sagehens practice and play their home games in Pomona
College's state of the art multi-million dollar Rains Center, one of the
best Division III facilities in the nation.
