The Pitzer-Pomona Sagehens can smell it. All of Claremont can smell it. What is this mysterious scent that wafts through the fall air? It is none other than the potent aroma of a 2008 SCIAC league title and it fills the nostrils of a team that is hungry to prove itself. Heading into the 2008 season the Sagehens have arguably the most talent sported in years and there is no arguing that they will have the deepest team that Head Coach Bernard Walker has seen in his three years.
Headed by three returning seniors, the birds of Claremont are locked and loaded with not only elderly wisdom but also with a fresh batch of soft-faced freshman. For the past three years Chris Moreno-Hunt has led the team in scoring, improving each season and being named 1st Team All League his junior year. Akeson consistently leads the team in birdies and features a long ball that is second only to senior Josh Mecouch who is geared to make a run at league scoring records.
In addition to the three seniors, 2007 breakout freshman star Wynn Sullivan, returns eager to prove himself and gain respect. Dave Apfel looks to lead the team in fairways hit. Freshmen Alex Nakao and Max Kroloff are exciting young players eager to make their collegiate mark.
If you go to just one Pomona-Pitzer sporting event this year, go see a women's water polo match. But if you go to two events, make sure the second one is a Sagehen golf tournament. 2008 will be a special year. |
