Women's Cross Country Places 2nd at Regionals

Pomona-Pitzer's women's cross country team took a surprising second place at
the NCAA Division III West Region cross country meet Saturday, November 14
to qualify to the NCAA National meet this coming weekend in Hanover,
Indiana.

The Sagehen harriers scored 89 points to narrowly miss winning the Regional
crown by one point. SCIAC foe Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tallied a winning 88
points, following by Pomona-Pitzer (89), Willamette (104), and Whitman and
Whitworth (both at 126). A total of 16 teams scored in the meet.

Junior Alicia Freese led Pomona-Pitzer with her third-place finish in 21:54
-- a strong showing after taking a month off due to injury. Senior Anna
Scharfen
took 10th (22:22), senior Maddy Kieselhorst took 11th (22:26),
junior Rose Haag took 25th (23:06), and junior Zoe Meyers took 40th (23:35). The top four all earned All-Region honors.

The Sagehens last competed at the NCAA National meet in 1982 -- well before
all of this year's team members were born.
