Pomona-Pitzer sophomore Alicia Freese ran away with the individual title and
conference Athlete of the Year crown Saturday, Oct. 27 at the 2007 SCIAC
Cross Country Championships.
Freese clocked a PR 22:18 over the 6000m (3.7 mile) La Mirada Park course to win by over 30 seconds. She becomes the fourth Sagehen to win the individual title in SCIAC history, behind Sagehen greats Kelly Redfield (1990),
Anastasia Finnegan (1998), and Laura Bishop (2000 and 2001).
Pomona-Pitzer finished fourth as a team behind Occidental, Claremont-M-S,
and Redlands, and ahead of Cal Lutheran, Whittier, Caltech, and La Verne.
Behind Freese for Pomona-Pitzer were soph Claire Ryan (8th, 23:31), earning
First Team All Conference honors. Sophomore Rose Haag ran an outstanding
race to finish 19th in 24:13 and earn Second Team All Conference honors.
Freese and Ryan will represent Pomona-Pitzer at the NCAA Division III West
Regional Meet on November 10 at McIver Park in Estacada, OR (hosted by Lewis & Clark College).
