N/A Bye Week The Sagehens did not compete this past weekend, but will next play at La
Verne on the 7th of October. WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL Overall: 4-5 SCIAC:
1-2 9/26/00 win PP d. Redlands 3-0 (15-8, 15-4, 15-13) 9/29/00 loss La Verne d. PP 3-0 (0-15, 1-15, 14-16) The women’s volleyball
team split a pair of SCIAC matches during this past week. Against the University of Redlands, the
Hens were able to come through with a 3 game sweep of the Bulldogs. In that match, Samantha Hauff led the way
offensively with 12 kills. Renee
Faulkner also had a big night with 10 kills
on only 19 attempts. Alison
Rindlaub and Vicenta Arrizon had 9 and 7 kills, respectively. Erika Gamst had 31 assists on the
evening. Defensively, 3 Sagehens were
in double digits with digs. Rindlaub
and Gamst each had 13 on the night, and Susan Caplow came up with 10. Against La Verne, the
Hens ran into a tough Leopard squad.
Alison Rindlaub, Vicenta Arrizon, and Colleen Chrisco each had 4 kills
on the night and Erika Gamst had 13 assists as well. The Sagehens will next compete at home versus Occidental on the 3rd at 7:30 WOMEN’S SOCCER Overall: 5-4-1 SCIAC:
3-2 9/27/00 win PP d. Occidental, 4-2 9/29/00 win PP d. Whittier, 3-0 This past week saw the
Sagehens come up with two big SCIAC victories over the Tigers from Occidental
and the Poets of Whittier to get over the .500 mark. Against Occidental, Lauren Salvail put two
of her 5 shots in the back of the net, one in each half of play. Sarah Thalmann and Rebecca Hummel each
added a goal as well to give the Hens their final total. Thalmann’s goal proved to be the
game-winner. The Hens outshot
Occidental 10-1 on the day. Two days after defeating
Occidental, the Sagehens would head out to the field again and come away with
another victory over Whittier. Lauren
Salvail again had a large day with 2 more goals on the day on only 3 shots. Susan Houge added the Hens’ other goal on
the day with an assist from Torrey Shelton.
Ashley Thompson came up with 3 saves on the game. Again, the Sagehens outshot their opponent
18-6. The Hens will next
compete at La Verne on the 4th at 4:00.
MEN’S SOCCER Overall: 5-4 SCIAC:
4-1 9/27/00 win PP d. Occidental, 2-0 9/30/00 win PP d. Whittier, 2-1 The Sagehen men, like the
women, won two SCIAC contests this past week to raise their conference record
to 4-1 on the year. On the 27th, the
Hens took on Occidental and came away with a 2-0 win. The Hens outshot Occidental by 23-7. Coming up with the two goals for the
Sagehens were Jason Magee and Ian Preikschat. Matt Lee-Ashley assisted on the goal by Magee and Andrew
Watkins provided the assist for Preikschat.
Nick Zabriskie came up with 6 saves in net for the Hens. The Hens came out again
on the 30th to take on the Poets of Whittier and again were victorious. The Sagehens got off to a 2-0 lead at the
half and would hang on for the 2-1 win.
Rodolfo Bravo and Andrew Watkins each saw a shot get to the back of
the net. Ian Preikschat assisted on
the goal by Bravo and assisting Watkins was Mario Velez. Nick Zabriskie corralled 3 saves on the
afternoon as the Hens outshot the Poets 13-5. The sagehens will next
compete at home against La Verne on the 4th at 4:00. MEN’S WATER POLO Overall: 2-7 SCIAC:
0-0 9/30/00 loss U.S. Air Force d. PP, 12-6 The Sagehens ran into a
tough squad from the Air Force this past weekend. The Hens were able to keep the game within 3 or 4 goals for
most of the contest, but Air Force would eventually pull away in the fourth
quarter of action. Ben Speicher led
the team offensively on the afternoon. The Hens will next
compete at Loyola Marymount on the 7th at 12:00. MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY Overall: 0-0 SCIAC:
0-0 9/30/00 8th Place of 24 teams
at Stanford Invite Behind the 1-2 punch of
Adam Boardman and John Singleton, Pomona-Pitzer's men's cross country team
took 8th out of 24 teams Saturday at the Stanford Invite in Palo Alto. Senior Boardman and
Singleton finished 22nd and 23rd out of 196 runners in 26:21 and 26:22,
respectively. Rounding out the top five for Pomona-Pitzer were Pul Miser
(33rd, 26:45), Matt Franck (69th, 27:40), and Roy Pierson (94th, 28:05). The Sagehens don't
compete this weekend, but resume competition Friday, Oct. 13 at the SCIAC
Multi-Dual meet at La Mirada Park. WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY Overall: 0-0 SCIAC:
0-0 9/30/00 16th
Place of 30 teams at Stanford Invite Led again by Laura Bishop's sparkling 5th place finish, Pomona-Pitzer's
women's cross country team took 16th out of 30 teams Saturday at the Stanford
Invitational in Palo Alto. Bishop took 5th out of
244 runners in 18:43 over the 5000m course (3.1 miles). Bishop's time is the
fastest ever recorded by a P-P runner at the Stanford meet. Behind her for
the Sagehens were frosh Stefanie McDougall (101st, 21:13), Heather Callahan
(120th, 21:30), Susie Roley (129th, 21:37), and Vanessa Kettner (130th,
21:37). Pomona-Pitzer doesn't
compete this weekend, but resumes racing Friday, Oct. 13 at the SCIAC
Multi-Dual meet at La Mirada Park.
