10/21/00 loss Menlo
College d. PP, 42-32
The Sagehens traveled north to Atherton
this past weekend and came away with a loss to Menlo College. The Hens got down early in the contest, as
they went into
halftime with a 28-0 deficit, and couldn’t quite make it up
despite outscoring Menlo 32-14 in the second half. The game proved to be an air assault from both
teams as all 11 touchdowns in the game were scored via the passing
game.
Offensively, the Sagehens came
with a very balance attack, collecting 212 yards on the ground and 203 by way
of the pass. Ryan Hattersley carried
the bulk of the
load on the ground, rushing the
ball 36 times for 145 yards. Matthew
LaCoss also got in on the running game with 6 carries of his own for 70 yards
on the day. In
his first stint at quarterback
this season, LaCoss was also the main contributor from that position, as he
threw the ball 29 times, completing 18 of those attempts for
182 yards and an impressive 5
touchdowns on the day, all in the second half of play.
Jonathan Samples led the
receiving corps on the afternoon, gathering 7 catches for 75 yards and a
touchdown. Ben LaCoss got in on the
action as well as 2 of his 3
catches resulted in touchdowns.
Jeremy Grad and Thomas Woo were the other two Sagehens to catch
touchdown passes from LaCoss on the afternoon.
Defensively, the Hens again demonstrated
solid rush defense, as Menlo was only able to run for 39 yards on the day with
no touchdowns. It was a different story
through the air, however, as
Menlo College gained 510 yards via their air attack, throwing for 6
scores. Alan Flores and Shea Joaquim
led the individual defensive
efforts for the Hens, collecting
10 and 8 tackles, respectively.
The Sagehens will next play at
Occidental in a night game, on the 28th at 7:00.
