About the Program:
The Pomona-Pitzer women’s basketball team has a history of success, starting with the program’s first win in 1903 versus Occidental College by a score of 19-15.  Since that first win the Sagehens have gone on to establish themselves as one of the Division III powers in the West Region.  The Sagehens have won 15 of 24 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championships during the period from 1977-2003.  The Hens won their latest title during the 2002 season.  The team has participated in the NCAA tournament six times, finishing third in 1981-82.  The women’s team has produced four NCAA Division All-Americans and three top NCAA Academic Teams.

Pomona-Pitzer’s success can be attributed to unselfish play and stingy defense.  The team plays aggressive man-to-man defense, which routinely holds their opponents below a 38% field goal average.  The team’s offense spreads the ball around, creating a balanced attack.  The offense that the Hens most often utilize is a flex offense, which they run in numerous formations.  The Saghens play their home games in the beautiful confines of the Rains Center, which is one of the finest facilities in Division III athletics.
