Hens Shutout Oxy
Pomona-Pitzer achieved a crucial victory today, beating Occidental 2-0. The shutout came thanks to a dynamic team effort, including an unyielding defensive line, and goals from two freshman midfielders.

The Sagehens came out in the first half clearly ready to win, putting pressure on their opponents all over the field. In the 22nd minute freshman central midfielder Traci Lopez took a powerful shot about 15 yards out from the goal, giving Pomona-Pitzer the lead. The goal, which was assisted by junior forward Elli Seo, was Lopez’s second goal of the season.

In the second half Pomona-Pitzer came out determined again. The team picked up their second goal in the 77th minute. Outside midfielder Jenni Hebein took a chance with a wide shot from the right side, establishing the two-goal lead. The Hens out-shot Occidental 13 to 5 over the course of the game, and senior goalkeeper Caroline Flynn came up with 3 saves to ensure the shut out. Today’s game gave the Hens their first win of SCIAC play.
