Today’s game pitted Pomona-Pitzer against Santa Cruz in a non-SCIAC game. In the high scoring match the Sagehens claimed the 3-2 victory.
The game started with a quick goal by the Banana Slugs’ in the 3rd minute. The goal came after a cross and then a finish by Annick Laab. The Hen’s responded soon after in the 9th minute. Forward Angie Martinez received the ball from midfielder Erin Platter, and with finesse took it out of the air to flick it past the keeper. With the momentum going their way, the Sagehens scored again in the 14th minute. This time the goal came from a low shot by midfielder Traci Lopez. The remainder of the half showed a lot of possession from Pomona-Pitzer, however in the last ten minutes Santa Cruz started putting greater pressure on the Hens. In the 39th minute a serve got over the defensive line, giving the Slugs a shooting opportunity. Sagehen goalkeeper Caroline Flynn made the first save, but Sara Damert shot the rebound, evening up the match before half time.
In the second half Pomona-Pitzer put together a number of dynamic attacks. In the 72nd minute forward Katy Metcalf settled a pass from forward Paige Maas, and flicked the ball into the net for the finish. The goal put the Hens ahead 3-2. The Hens held off the pressure from Santa Cruz, and managed to maintain much of the possession for the remainder of the game, sealing the victory.
The win gives Pomona-Pitzer their first 3-game winning streak of the season, as well as an overall winning record for the season of 9-8-1. |
